PERCUTANEOUS HEART VALVES
WHAT ARE THE RISKS ?
Though the risks are low, their assessment is ongoing. This is the reason why the percutaneous valve technique is carried out as part of a research protocol in patients for whom surgery, the reference treatment, carries an unacceptable risk.
As in patients undergoing aortic balloon dilatation, cerebral accidents may occur, triggered by migration of calcified material during stent placement. There is also a risk of mal-positioning of the device in addition to those associated with surgical closure of the femoral artery.
