MULTI-SLICE CT SCAN
WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FROM THIS TEST ?
Your cardiologist believes that the pain that you are experiencing in your chest and your breathlessness are symptoms of narrowings in your coronary arteries. This is why he has prescribed a coronary CT scan.
The test will serve to analyze the arteries of your heart in several dimensions and detect potential narrowings.
If your coronary arteries are found to be normal, the causes of your symptoms will be reassessed.
If the test reveals the presence of a stenosis (narrowing) in your coronary arteries, you will probably need to undergo a coronary angiogram.
This test can also be useful to monitor the implantation of stents and to make sure that they remain patent and are not obstructed. This technique allows also the monitoring of bypass pontages.
