BEFORE THE PROCEDURE

Coronary angiography generally requires a brief hospitalization of 1 to 2 days. In certain cases it is perfectly safe for the patient to be discharged on the same day. If the coronary angiography is scheduled in the early morning, you may be able to leave the hospital in the late afternoon.

If your coronary angiogram is scheduled in the early morning, you must not eat after midnight.  If it has been scheduled in the late morning or later in the day, you may eat a light breakfast.
Before the procedure, you must inform the anesthetist of any potential allergy to iodine and indicate the medications that you are currently taking, especially if you suffer from diabetes.
