CORONARY ANGIOGRAPHY

WHY ARE WE ALWAYS BEHIND SCHEDULE ?

There are two main reasons for this:

1) We perform emergency procedures on patients who are suffering a myocardial infarction (heart attack) and whose arteries must be immediately unclogged.
Such procedures are likely to cause delays in our schedule.

2) In order to reduce the length of hospital stay to a minimum for patients admitted on an emergency basis and when treatment by angioplasty and stent implantation is required, we always strive to perform this procedure on the same day as the coronary angiography procedure.
In some instances, we may have to postpone the angioplasty procedure until the following day so that we may administer a blood thinning treatment in order to facilitate the angioplasty procedure.

Upon completion of the coronary angiography examination, you will return to the coronary care unit where you will receive information about the extent of disease affecting your coronary arteries. After conferring with your treating cardiologist, we will discuss the treatment options with you before deciding on an angioplasty procedure. You may wish to contact one of your family members to discuss the results of your examination.
