ANGIOGRAPHY OF THE LOWER LIMBS

As in coronary angiography, a catheter is introduced through an arterial puncture in the groin.
The puncture is usually performed in the femoral artery after injection of a local anaesthetic which makes it completely painless.

Dye containing iodine, which is opaque to X-ray, is then injected through the catheter so that X-rays of the abdominal aorta and the lower limb arterial system may be taken. The injection of dye may produce a sensation of heat.

The examination lasts about 20 minutes
